How Mainstream Porn Is Finally Making Room for Trans Performers

There are many sites on the internet offering transporn. You can literally see them everywhere you look. There are thousands of trans performers allowing you to fulfill your craziest fantasies. It is a genre that has grown in leaps and bounds. However, what if I told you this has not always been the case? In fact, transgender porn has only been around for around 25 years. This article looks at transporn’s [and trans performers’] journey towards acceptance in the mainstream.

It All Began With Grooby

Grooby was the first adult channel to incorporate trans porn into its schedule. The company has been making trans porn since 1996 with sites such as Shemale Yum, Ladyboy-Ladyboy, Black Shemale Hardcore, and Shemale Pornstar offering viewers a place to find their favorite fap content. Needless to say, it made them a lot of money since there were plenty of freaks looking for this content.

There was an issue with the names though. Words like shemale and “tranny” were considered derogatory. The company had to find ways of removing those names from their site names, search terms, and film titles without losing relevance [read customers]. As we write this, sites no longer use those words. They instead prefer more inclusive names like transgender, tgirls, or ladyboys. This niche has grown exponentially since those early days of 1996, with sites like Pornhub witnessing an astonishing 300 percent increase in searches for transgender porn. If you thought you are the only one that loves this niche, think again! It has made a lot of money for producers considering transgender porn is mostly premium. Lovers of this niche are super loyal to this content that fulfills their needs at a premium. Studios and channels that have specialized in this content have made a killing over time.

Fight for Respectability

While studios and producers were laughing all the way to the bank, it was not the same for performers. They’ve had to fight for their seat at the table, so to speak. They had to deal with reductive stereotypes and producers who decided everything they had to do. Most of the performers who started out recall having everything scripted for them and the producer making pretty much every decision. To be fair, the producers were only trying to imagine what their consumers (mostly male) would love to see transgender women do. Statistics from Pornhub indicate that 63 percent more men are likely to search for transporn deals. For xHamster, 87.5 percent of searches for shemale content come from men. As such, trans women have always been made to perform porn for men. It didn’t matter whether that was the real portrayal of transwomen or not.

For example, transwomen are mostly portrayed on top penetrating other women and men although, in real life, many don’t want anything to do with their cocks. Perhaps ironically, mainstream media bringing transgender people to the public’s attention (e.g. Amazon’s drama Transparent) has also contributed to their endangerment. There are tens of reported homicides every year in the United States involving trans women especially those from minority communities. Activists and trans performers believe more education is needed for the general public to change how they view trans people.
